A coach and training consultant with 30 years experience, working with leaders to build meaningful workplaces.
Meaningful workplaces? - where people are engaged, valued, and contribute to better results - because that’s where you’ll find the creativity, the drive, and the courage - those things that make it special.
So what’s my story…?
I cut my teeth in the classroom and graduated from teaching inside to teaching outside, leading outdoor education groups.
I found that real learning can happen anywhere, that the right environment can be created, providing the opportunity for people to explore, reflect and grow.
Creating such environments needs experience and skill. To develop both I have:
Participated in personal development programmes in the UK and US.
Trained as a facilitator, trainer, presenter, and coach.
Qualified as a master practitioner in NLP.
Explored group dynamics.
Qualified to use various personality profile tools.
I have worked for large companies, small consultancies and independently, as I do now. I have worked with teachers, heads, doctors, vets, shop stewards and union reps, managers, team leaders, chief executives and entrepreneurs, creatives, techies, doers and thinkers. I have worked with global companies, nationally recognised organisation and smaller, local concerns, in both the private and public sector. All have brought their unique insights and experience and contributed to where I am today.
Such experience means much of my work has been as a “process consultant” focussing on the how of things rather than the what, making the how easier and more effective. As most of the how involves people, the biggest leverage is working with those who lead and supporting them to do so.
It’s been a privilege to have earned such a depth and breadth of experience, even if some of it came the hard way. If you are interested to see some of the companies I have worked with, scroll down the page. Some of my career highlights include:
Training trainers and coaches for several large companies
Helping large employers change cultures to safeguard their futures
Bringing programmes from the USA to the UK / Europe
Supporting initiatives dealing with young people in gangs in the US
The results achieved through personal 1 -1 coaching
Making a difference to people’s confidence and self belief
Supporting the human side of process improvement / six sigma drives
Find Your Way leadership programme for the Orchestra sector
What’s important to me? Connection, experience, understanding, humour and exploring those areas that we may not readily engage with, yet are those that expand us.
I know it’s not always comfortable, I have been there, but comfortable is not always going to do it. Avoiding the uncomfortable means avoiding so much more, shutting off the opportunity of finding out what’s on the other side.
So - that’s a little of my story. Oh… I have a family. I ride a bike. I can run (but prefer the bike), have a 2nd degree black belt in Aikido and dabble in origami - it’s the precision and the creativity. I belief travel is an education and will do so at, almost, any opportunity.
